Alcohol intoxication

A 56 years old male was brought into Emergency Deparment, he was comatose with hypothermia, hypotonia, hyporeflexia, hypotension, conjungtival injection, slow respiration, acidotic breathing, In ED he was administered Thiamine 100 mg intravena and get better.

Whast is the role of Thiamine is this case?  

Thiamine prevents the development of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
